From Flood Ruins to Global Recognition: Vilvex Cables’ Remarkable CE Marking Achievement

Thrissur, (Kerala), [India] September 05, 2025: Vilvex Cables, a cable manufacturer based in Kuttur village,Thrissur Kerala has received CE marking certification for its electrical products. The certification allows the company to export cables to European Union countries, where CE marking is mandatory for electrical products.

Founded in 1995 by K T Augustine, Vilvex operates from the Thrissur district and specializes in PVC-insulated wires and cables. The company currently holds ISI certification from the Bureau of Indian Standards (obtained in 1997), ISO certification (2000), RoHS compliance, and approval from Kerala PWD.

Recovery After 2018 Floods

The 2018 Kerala floods destroyed Vilvex’s manufacturing facility completely. The company lost its building, machinery, and inventory during the disaster. Augustine and his team rebuilt the facility with financial support from local community members and banks.

The company redesigned its new facility with flood-resistant features and upgraded its machinery. By 2020, Vilvex had recovered its pre-flood production capacity and achieved the highest turnover among cable manufacturers in South India.

Current Operations and Products

Vilvex manufactures Class-2 and FRLSH (Flame Retardant Low Smoke Halogen) cables using imported machinery. The company sources copper and PVC materials for its production line. It operates under a direct-sales model, selling products without distributors or agents.

The company’s product range includes household wiring cables and commercial-grade electrical cables. Vilvex provides a lifetime guarantee on its products and handles customer service directly from its Thrissur, Kerala facility.

Government Recognition

The Kerala Government selected Vilvex for its Mission 1000 initiative, which identifies promising small and medium enterprises in the state. The company was among 88 enterprises chosen in the program’s first phase.

The CE marking certification places Vilvex among a small number of Indian cable manufacturers that meet European standards. This certification requires compliance with EU directives on safety, health, and environmental protection for electrical products.

Vilvex currently serves customers across South India and has been operating for 28 years. The company plans to explore all India opportunities following its CE marking certification.
