TLSU conducts a workshop for school teachers and career counsellors to help students make the right career choice

Career counselling and guidance should take into consideration a student’s aptitude and inclination while focusing on making them employable, says Prof. (Dr.) Avani Umatt, Provost, TLSU

Vadodara (Gujarat) [India]: A plethora of career choices makes choosing the right one an onerous task for students. Realising the important role that educators play in career guidance, TeamLease Skills University (TLSU) Vadodara organised a one-day workshop for teachers of various schools in the district.

Speaking at the Career Guidance for Skills Based Higher Education workshop, Prof. (Dr.) Avani Umatt, Provost, TLSU, stressed the need for student counselling to help them make the right choice at the right time. This she said will help them chalk out a roadmap for success. “As educators, it is often a race against time for us as we focus on skilling students to either make them job-ready or set them on the path of entrepreneurship,” said Dr Umatt. She also touched upon the various unique skill-based programmes offered by TLSU. Dr Umatt also highlighted the instructional design of TLSU programmes based on the principles of andragogy. She explained in detail how the varsity incorporates these principles in its curriculum to achieve its motto of ‘Putting India to Work.’

Prof. (Dr.) H.C. Trivedi, Registrar, TLSU said the setting up of Career Corners in schools and assigning teachers the role of counsellors will help students zero in on a career choice that corresponds with their aptitude and inclination.

TLSU’s Department of Life Skills also organised a session on Career Counselling of Teenagers as part of the varsity’s Train the Trainer initiative. The session focused on the need and challenges before counsellors in counselling teenagers in career choices.

The Head of Departments of Commerce and Management, Health Life and Applied Sciences, Hospitality and Tourism, Information and Technology and Mechatronics also interacted with the participant teachers.
