1. What was the moment or experience that sparked the idea to open Eleven-The Lounge Cafe? How has that vision evolved over time?
The idea for Eleven-The Lounge Cafe came to us during our frequent travels along this route since 2012. We often struggled to find clean washrooms or a good cafe, especially during the 2.5–3-hour stretch between Haldwani and our home. This gap, combined with Arjun’s passion for cooking and my love for connecting with people, inspired us to create a welcoming space for travelers. Over time, the vision has evolved from being a simple pit stop to becoming a destination where guests can relax, recharge, and create meaningful memories.
2. How do you envision Eleven-The Lounge Cafe contributing to the local culture and dining scene in the long run?
We hope to contribute by celebrating local ingredients, flavors, and traditions while offering a space where people of all ages feel welcome. By incorporating elements of Pahadi cuisine and supporting local suppliers, we aim to foster pride in the region’s culinary heritage. Over time, we envision the cafe becoming a cultural hub where locals and travelers alike gather, share stories, and enjoy authentic experiences.
3. How does Eleven-The Lounge Cafe create a warm and personalized atmosphere for its guests, especially for those passing through during their travels?
We focus on creating an environment where guests feel at home, even if they’re far from it. From greeting everyone with a warm smile to offering personal touches like games, books and musical instruments, we aim to make every visit special. For travelers, we emphasize comfort and relaxation, encouraging them to take a break, savor a good meal, and recharge before continuing their journey.
4. Could you share some behind-the-scenes moments where you’ve gone the extra mile to ensure a guest has a memorable experience?
There are many heartwarming moments that come to mind. One instance was teaching a young girl how to use chopsticks; she mastered it with great enthusiasm, delighting her family. Another was when we added a personal touch to a couple’s pre-wedding shoot by gifting the bride some haldi and herbal teas, bringing tears to her eyes. These gestures may seem small, but they reflect our commitment to making every guest feel valued and special.
5. Could you tell us about any seasonal or limited-time dishes you offer at Eleven-The Lounge Cafe and how they reflect the local produce?
We enjoy experimenting with the seasons, incorporating fresh, locally sourced produce to create limited-time dishes. For example, during monsoons, we offer herbal teas infused with homegrown ingredients that perfectly complement the weather. In winters, we highlight warming soups and traditional dishes made with locally available greens and spices. These seasonal offerings help us stay connected to the rhythm of nature while delighting our guests with fresh, flavorful dishes.
6. How do you foster a sense of connection among your guests and create a welcoming space for all visitors?
We’ve created a space that encourages interaction and relaxation. Guests can bond over board games, lose themselves in a good book, or share stories while sipping coffee or herbal tea. By being present and approachable, we ensure that every visitor feels heard and valued. Whether it’s engaging in conversation or offering a friendly menu suggestion, our goal is to make each guest feel like part of our extended family.

The core values we emphasize are hospitality, empathy, and sustainability. We want our team to genuinely care about each guest’s experience and go the extra mile to ensure their comfort. Respecting the environment is also a priority, and we encourage mindful practices in our operations. Ultimately, we aim to create a culture where teamwork and a shared passion for serving others come together to foster a warm, community-focused atmosphere.
